the basic point is that shanghainese is a unique dialect/language that has had much influence on Chinese for over a hundred years (I combine it with some background to Shanghaiese and Wu, as well as some historical background on the city), when it comes to vocabulary etc. However, Shanghainese as most other dialects are facing a serious threat from Putonghua, and many Children does not use it anymore (进了校门到了北京城 etc.). But in Shanghai there is work being done to protect the dialect, dictionaries and input systems for computers are being published which helps to wider the use of dialects. The most importat thing is still that the rules controlling the use of dialects has to be loosened.

这种节目只能让歧视方言的人说方言只能表达日常生活，无法表达精深的文化。
